About Us
Our History
The first Supanews store was opened by Adrian Gaskin in 1992 in Aspley, Queensland. The success of this business allowed Adrian to open more stores and he opened several sites within the Brisbane CBD. Following on from this success, the chain then expanded into major shopping complexes and transit locations on the east coast of Australia.
In late 2004 Supanews became the first business model franchise in the newsagency industry. Franchising was identified as the best way to build and manage the business for expansion. Supanews developed a strong franchise system that offered people a simplified and robust way to become a newsagent and to thrive in a highly competitive marketplace.
In late 2006 Supanews entered a joint venture with the A&R Whitcoulls' Group to form Supanews Retail. Supanews Retail currently has 51 stores (28 franchised) in Queensland, New South Wales, ACT and Victoria.
The Future
Over the coming years Supanews plans to continue its rapid growth and expansion of its customer base and franchise network through acquisitions of existing newsagencies and prime greenfield sites. It is envisaged that by the end of 2009, Supanews will grow to between 60 and 70 stores and serve over 15 million customers per year.
Supanews plans to grow to over 200 stores, servicing over 50 million customers a year by 2011.
Key to this objective is the constant development and improvement of the business model and retail offering. Supanews aims to be the benchmark for all other newsagencies and this will be attained though the strengths of the system and procedures, our strong supplier relationships and the motivation and enthusiasm of our talented franchisees.
