Supanews partners with Ovarian Cancer Australia for Mothers Day 2011
Supanews and Ovarian Cancer Australia will again join forces to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer during the Mother’s Day 2011 season. Building on their work from last year, Supanews will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Mother’s Day cards to support Ovarian Cancer Australia’s work to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer and provide information and support services to women with ovarian cancer and their families.
Ovarian Cancer Australia is a national, not-for-profit organisation and the peak body for ovarian cancer awareness and prevention in Australia. Ovarian Cancer Australia provides compassionate support programs and advocacy for women affected by ovarian cancer, as well as their families, friends and carers. Ovarian Cancer Australia’s support programs and practical resources provide women with the information they need and the opportunity to discuss common issues, share stories, and receive emotional support to help them cope with diagnosis and treatment.
On average, every day, 3 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and 2 Australian women will die as a result of ovarian cancer. Contrary to popular belief, the pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer and as such, there is unfortunately no early detection test. Around 75% of women are diagnosed at an advanced stage when the cancer has spread and is difficult to treat successfully. Therefore, it is critical that women are aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer so they can seek early medical advice. Ovarian Cancer Australia works to raise awareness of the symptoms to improve outcomes for women diagnosed, and provides information and support to improve quality of life for women living with ovarian cancer.
Supanews Retail Managing Director, Adrian Gaskin, said: “We at Supanews are proud to support a cause that has such a strong focus on the human element. Knowing that the money Supanews raises will be used for a practical purpose by Ovarian Cancer Australia in improving the lives of ovarian cancer patients and their families is very satisfying.”
Supanews has invited its customers to help keep this charitable partnership going strong. By purchasing their Mother’s Day card at Supanews, a portion of each customer’s purchase will go to Ovarian Cancer Australia.
