The Gaskin Supanews Group Partners with OCRF for Mother’s Day 2012!

The Gaskin Supanews Group and Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation will join forces to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer during the Mother’s Day 2012 season. In support of this hardworking organisation, The Gaskin Supanews Group will donate 5 cents from the proceeds from every Mother’s Day card sold in Supanews and Angus & Robertson stores, up to $5,500, to help fund the work of the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

As one of Australia’s pre-eminent bodies supporting ovarian cancer research programs, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is focused on understanding the causes of ovarian cancer, early detection and improving patient survival.

On average, every day 3 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 2 Australian women will die as a result of ovarian cancer. Contrary to popular belief, the pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer and as such, there is unfortunately no early detection test. Around 75% of women are diagnosed at an advanced stage when the cancer has spread and is difficult to treat successfully. Therefore, it is critical that women are aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer so they can seek early medical advice. Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation works to raise awareness of the symptoms to improve outcomes for women diagnosed, and provides information and support to improve quality of life for women living with ovarian cancer.

The Gaskin Supanews Group Managing Director, Adrian Gaskin, said: “We are proud to support a cause that has such a strong focus on the human element. Knowing that the money raised will be used for a practical purpose by the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation in improving the lives of ovarian cancer patients and their families is very satisfying.”

The Gaskin Supanews Group has invited its customers to help support this charitable partnership by purchasing a Mother’s Day card from Supanews and Angus & Robertson stores across the country. A portion of each customer’s purchase will go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, and help to make a difference in the lives of Australian women this Mother’s Day.
