Franchisee Testimonials 2
Supanews Brisbane Square (QLD)
With over 20 years experience running a large party plan company, 15 years in Real Estate and 5 years operating two successful Management Rights businesses, we were looking for a complete change for our next business. We wanted to utilize our people skills in a retail business with a proven track record and so began our search for a business with high traffic flow and a 9 out of 10 customer purchase in other words, we wanted to be able to sell to 98% or higher of customers who walked through our door.I visited the city on a regular basis and was impressed by the layout of the Supanews stores located in the Myer centre and upon watching the customer traffic through these stores, decided that a news agency was the way we should go. We looked on the Supanews web site and found that indeed, there were a few options available that may suit our needs. A meeting was arranged with Adrian Gaskin who explained the Supanews philosophy and what would be expected of us and the screening and training process that we would have to go through, we were given comprehensive information to take away and the door was left open for us to make an informed decision, and then make further contact should we wish to proceed to the next level.
We opened our brand new shop at Brisbane Square in December 2006, our shop had been fitted out and stocked by Supanews so that we were able to open our doors on our first day of operation safe in the knowledge that we had the support of a team of experienced professionals at Head Office to help us through the learning curve experienced by anyone starting a business in a new field.
Our sales have continued to grow over the past eighteen months, we enjoy being part of a group and we are able to talk to other franchisees in the network. Supanews organize promotions with our suppliers to keep the customers coming in our doors and we enjoy bulk buying power which in turn, helps our bottom line. Supanews also take care of a lot of our paperwork which means we can concentrate on growing our business.
Because Supanews carefully select the locations of their stores, we feel confident that our next purchase of another news agency would also be through the Supanews network.

When Greg & I first started looking around for a business to buy and run together we initially discounted a newsagency due to all the reports we had received about how hard and difficult it would be for 2 people who have never worked in that industry before. Our opinions immediately changed however, once meeting the team from Supanews. From the initial meeting and beyond they have been nothing but helpful and supportive, doing as much as they could to assist with whatever we needed from the training through to after takeover. The support and ongoing training from their development staff through to the management team has been amazing. No matter how small our question or issue they are always happy to help and follow through with, everything is followed through with from beginning to completion. From the very beginning we have never doubted our decision to join the Supanews “Family” and look forward to and extending our relationship with them.

After spending some time looking for a new business venture, Peter and I became interested in the Supanews Franchise. We had previously owned Brumbys Franchises and wanted to move away from the food industry. We liked the idea of a “pure” retail outlet that did not require manufacturing and had better operating hours. During discussions with the team at Supanews head office, we decided on purchasing the new store located at Carseldine. One of the things that has impressed us about the Franchise is the level of support we have received. The administrative support which included computer software and front of shop systems, are something that we had never had before in our other businesses and have made operating our store easier. Having no previous newsagency experience, the franchise system suited out requirements and has allowed us to move into a new business venture with ease. The “turn key” operation was everything the company promised, opening the doors on the first trading day to a perfectly set up store, which had everything we needed to be successful. This was an area that other franchise groups had over promised and under delivered but was not the case with Supanews.
We have experienced a steady sales pattern since opening and are sure that with the future opening of other stores within this centre we will continue to grow our sales. We feel that we have joined Supanews at an exciting time in the company’s development and look forward to future expansion within the franchise.

Like a lot of people, I always knew that owning your own business is the way to go. As it turns out, a Supanews franchise fitted very well with our short and long term plans.Neither of us had any retail experience, but Supanews still gave us the opportunity to have a look at their business model and their processes. Simple but effective. We went and visited one of the corporate stores, were shown some of the processes and procedures, and we went on from there, having been impressed with what we saw.
We researched other newsagencies as well, but the biggest difference that we noticed was the structured approach to the business. Supanews gave us all the information that we requested and needed to feel comfortable with the organisation, and they did so without any reservations. We were happy with what we saw, researched and feedback from existing franchisees, and signed on the dotted line.
We could not be more happier with the outcome. Supanews staff trained us one on one, on every aspect of the business, very efficient and effective. Within a few days I was comfortable with most of the routine, and by the end of the couple of weeks of training, we knew that we had made the right choice.
Supanews continues to support us. What is most comforting is the knowledge that we will get advice and support when we need and ask for it, whether to improve the way the business is operating, or to build the business itself. We were presented with a business opportunity and we took it...and will be keeping it!
